Hatuey is a photographer, focused on documenting the world and realities around him. A social driven artist with a camera, capturing people, places, injustices, struggle and people claiming their power.
Having studied literature and film, initially his photography focused more on capturing performance such as local musical acts and documenting the drag show scene in San Juan.
After his evolvement in the 2017 University of Puerto Rico student strike, his photography became more political focused, capturing protests and social projects including Memorias de la reconstrucción. A documentary project that spanned about eight months following Hurricane Maria documenting historic occupied communities in their efforts of reconstruction.
Hatuey has also participated and done work in other media such as movies, both fiction and documentary and occasionally writes, scripts, short stories and chronicles.
